Near good rarity of honest economics in same original wrapper. What is inflation? Prices rising or purchasing power, and/or our dollar losing their value? No subject is so much discussed - but so little understood and misexplained - as inflation. Thus Henry Hazlitt opens this concise book densely filled with facts. He explains the elements of the subject in digestible common sense and plain spoken terms. Hazlitt removes the mystery of the obfuscating technical jargon in which the truth is often buried. What precisely is inflation? What is its cause and its cure? How long will it last, how far will it go? What will your dollar buy next year or ten years from now? Is there any way in which you can take advantage of inflation? How can you protect yourself against further erosion of your savings. Is it inevitable? Is it necessary to achieve "full employment" or "economic growth?" Is there a "new" type of inflation in the last half century? What about the so called wage-price spiral? Is a controlled inflation possible and can we trust "monetary management" by the Fed, Treasury and legislators? Is price-fixing a remedy or worse than the problem? Should we return to gold as a standard, thus limiting and backing the creation of dollar digits? Hazlitt answers these questions and many more. Here the reader will find the logic and lucidity that led his book "Economics in One Lesson" to sell out innumerable editions and translations. Hazlitt's analysis and critique is skilled, thorough, and devastating to the "money masters". The noted economist and columnist exposes the truth behind our shrinking dollar worth or value. Hazlitt was a libertarian philosopher, economist, and journalist for various publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Newsweek. He was the founding vice-president of the Foundation for Economic Education and an early editor of The Freeman, an important libertarian magazine. In 1946 Hazlitt wrote "Economics in One Lesson," his seminal text on free market economics, which Ayn Rand called a "magnificent job of theoretical exposition." Hazlitt is credited with bringing his ideas and those of the so-called Austrian School to the American economics scene; his work has influenced, among many, economist Ludwig von Mises and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul.
