About This Item

New Bedford, MA: Old Dartmouth Historical Society, 1938. Ex-Library. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Part of the American Guide Series, true first edition. Compiled and written by the Federal Writers' Project of the WPA of Massachusetts. The most complete directory of Whaling Captains, their Ships and Voyages, ever published. Includes a brief sketch of the Whaling industry, the records of every Whaling Port in the US. Those who number among their ancesters Masters of Whaling can find an accurate record of the vessels and voyages, as it contains a list of more than 10,000 voyages over a period from 1731 to 1925. Bright green endpapers, gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Reynolds Printing, New Bedford. Bookplate from The Milton Academy on the front pastedown. It appears this was part of the academy's library part of The Stuart Miller Crocker Collection, bright green endpapers, tight and clean, very scarce. An introduction is written by Harry Hopkins, the WPA adminisrator. Small remainder of a stamp on the spine. Some erosion to the spine ends, still very collectible. This is NOT a facsimile reprint or print on demand. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
