Athearn's account of the many British visitors to the Trans-Mississippi West. The Britons came with notions of making investments, becoming settlers, or simply as tourists. Includes a section of black & white plates showing various Western scenes. Inscribed and signed on half title page by the author thus: "For Bob Perkin / Westerner par / excellence - and a / fine friend. / Robert G. Athearn." --- In full dark red cloth-covered boards with spine titling & decorations in gilt. Volume wrapped in jacket with black & white drawings of Western people & scenes to front & back panels. --- A tightly-bound, sound copy, though with infrequent discreet pencilings within the text.
