About This Item
Garden City: The Sun Dial Press, 1937. Hardcover. 8vo. Black mesh cloth with green lettering and decoration, pictorial dust jacket. 306pp. Pictorial title page, illustration. Near fine/very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn, mainly at spine head and tail; inoffensive scrape (likely from price sticker removal) at upper right of jacket front panel. Handsome and super tight first of this edition, being Latimer's 1935 title "Headed for a Hearse" (Doubleday, Doran) reissued to coincide with the 1937 mystery film starring Preston Foster. This copy bears a fine autograph addition: Green front flyleaf bears a 2½" X 2½" yellow slip signed in ink by Foster's co-star, Carol Hughes. Foster plays smart aleck New York detective Bill Crane and Hughes (1910-95) plays Emily Lou Martin. A superb, unusual copy.
