Gilt embossed bi-color boards/NF w/trace discoloration. DJ/VG; nips, chips, closed tears w/losses to upper front & upper/lower spine edges; rubs to leading edges, & faint discolorationg. Decorated endpapers. PO name on first title page. Novelette written 1946 by James Branch Cabell (1879 - 1958) whose prolific literary career began with The Eagle's Shadow (1904), and best known for his series of pseudo-erudite romances of Dom Manuel set in the mythical medieval land of Poictesme, and Jurgen (1919). This novel chronicles the love of Jose Gasparilla for Isabel de Castro; a love that drives him to piracy, murder, and entanglement with a strange series of events both natural and supernatural.
