About This Item

Anchor., 1990. Softcover. Very Good. Well of Loneliness: A 1920s Classic of Lesbian Fiction" by Radclyffe Hall (ISBN: 9780385416092): "Well of Loneliness" is a groundbreaking and poignant work of literature that explores themes of love, identity, and societal norms through the lens of a lesbian protagonist. Set in the 1920s, the novel offers a powerful and sensitive portrayal of the challenges and prejudices faced by individuals whose sexual orientation defied the social conventions of the time. Radclyffe Hall's evocative prose and heartfelt storytelling shed light on the emotional and psychological struggles of the main character as she grapples with her place in a world that often rejects and stigmatizes her identity. With a rich and poignant narrative, the book serves as a timeless and courageous testament to the enduring resilience and spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. Crisp, clean, unread book with some shelfwear/edgewear. May have remainder marks, often with a black dot or similar mark, to the top or bottom edge of the book.

Synopsis

The Well of Loneliness is a 1928 lesbian novel by the English author Radclyffe Hall. It follows the life of Stephen Gordon, an Englishwoman from an upper-class family whose "sexual inversion" (that is, homosexuality) is apparent from an early age. She finds love with Mary Llewellyn, whom she meets while serving as an ambulance driver in World War I, but their happiness together is marred by social isolation and rejection, which Hall depicts as having a debilitating effect on inverts.
