[Cincinnati-?]: [self-published by the author], [194-]. 67p., stiff pebbled card covers, mild corner wear, very good. Inscribed by the author with a date of 8/25/1946. Rather scarce. Self-published poetry collection, apparently by an African American author. Many poems address the war, including celebration of the role of Black soldiers; another about the Scottsboro Boys is dedicated to the International Labor Defense. A short prose piece imagines the reaction of a Black mother whose son goes to fight the Axis and dies in action. There was a mail carrier named Ernest M. Mickens in Cincinnati (1903-1993), which would appear to be the same individual; his copyright applications for songs appearing in this anthology appear under both Ernest Montagu and E. Montague Mickens. A musician going by the name Montague Mickens was active in the midwest in the 1930s, mentioned in some African American newspapers of the time.
