About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1896. First US Edition. An ex-library in very good condition in its original olive green cloth covered boards with gilt text and designs on the spine and on the front board created by Margaret Armstrong. The upper edge of the text block is gilt. A 12mo measuring 7 by 4 3/4 inches with library call numbers written in white ink at the base of the spine, a 1/4" closed tear to the cloth at the head of the spine, the cloth on the spine is very slightly faded and there is a university library book plate on the front paste down. The call number is repeated in pencil on the copyright page and there is a stamped accession number on the dedication page. There is a library pocket and date slip attached to the rear end pages. The joints, hinges and binding remain tight and strong. 266 pages followed by four pages of ads from the publisher for other titles by Stevenson. (Gerstley Stevenson Collection, 62B)
