Mankowitz (1924-98) was not only an English antique dealer and author of this study and "An Encyclopedia of English Pottery and Porcelain" -- he was also, of all things, a dramatist ("The Bespoke Overcoat," 1955), producer, script writer ("Casino Royale," 1967), and author of novels and even musicals ("Express Bongo," 1958).
