New York: The Macmillan Company, 1906. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine in Dust Jacket. Octavo, original pictorial sage-green cloth titled in gilt on spine, titled in black and decorated in black, red and gilt on front panel, top edges gilt. 314 pp + [3] pp ads at rear. Publisher's promotional pamphlet advertising 8 other contemporary books, including Jack London's WHITE FANG - but not "THE WAY OF THE GODS" - loosely laid in. A few small snags to top page edges otherwise a fine bright copy in the original dust jacket which reproduces the cover design. The jacket has a small chip at the base of the spine panel , about 1.5 cm deep and 3 cm long, extending slightly onto the base of the front panel, plus a couple of other tiny nicks but is overall in very good condition.

¶ Historical novel, a tale of Old Japan. The author is best known for his short story "Madame Butterfly" which was dramatised and later immortalised in Puccini's operatic version.
