Advertisement to this edition dated December of 1869, with this set finally printed in 1870 - 1871. With a general index and a glossary. Bound in morocco leather bindings. Gilded spines. Raised hubs. Marbled edges and end papers. Printed on quality paper. Engraved frontisplates and title page vignettes. 7.25 inches tall. 30.5 inches of shelf space. VERY GOOD condition. The leather is very supple and fresh. The hinges are 100% fully attached. Printed on quality paper that is very fresh, bright, and clean. Some general rubs / shelf wear / abrasion. An early name on second blank end paper. This set displays beautifully. In 1814, Sir Walter Scott published Waverly, which is often regarded as the first historical novel.
