Title in gilt on spine within elaborately designed panel--rubbed, barely visiblen spine. Sewn binding solid and tight. All edges speckled. Text/pages clean and unmarked, untorn. Corners and edges around spine scuffed. Double column format. Many wonderful and delightful illustrations by various artists-credits included. Frontispiece illustration of George Heriot Blessing the Lady Hermione; Inigo Jones, Architect; Philip Massinger, Dramatist; George Heriot Exhibiting the Judgment of Solomon to King James; Portrait of William Aytoune, Builder of Heriot's Hospital. Overlaid with onion skin. Contents: The Fortunes of Nigel, Quentin Durward, St. Ronan's Well.
