DJ (with the Longman's Fiction Prize mentioned) has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities (some sort of sticker residue present to the front panel). Bound in cloth boards with black titles and illustration present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Winner of the Newbery Medal in 1932. Younger Brother, a Navajo Indian living in Arizona in the 1920s, wishes to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and become a medicine man. To accomplish this task, he must undergo several arduous years of training, to learn all of the ancient songs and customs of his ancestors. This includes a journey to the Pacific Ocean in the far west, participating in traditional ceremonies, and climbing the nearby Waterless Mountain. Throughout his training, his Uncle relates to him numerous legends of their culture. E-151; 9.0 X 6.6 X 1.2 inches .

Synopsis

Waterless Mountain is a novel by Laura Adams Armer that was awarded the Newbery Medal for excellence in American children's literature in 1932. It is the story of Younger Brother, a Navajo Indian in the 1920s whose wish is to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and become a medicine man. To accomplish this task, he must undergo several arduous years of training, to learn all of the ancient songs and customs of his ancestors.
