An introduction to the classic period of Chinese porcelain. The author, Robert Lockhart Hobson (1872 1941), was keeper of the Department of Ceramics and Ethnography at the British Museum and an authority on far eastern ceramics. He was noted for his cataloguing which The London Times described as establishing firm facts for what had previously been "unproved tradition." Hobson's writing was influential in elevating Chinese ceramics in Western eyes from crafts to the status of fine art objects. He was president of the Oriental Ceramic Society from 1939 to 1942.
