London: Cassell and Company, 1946. Hardcover. Near fine/Near fine. First editions, first printings. Volume I is in the first state. Illustrated with half-tone plates. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt spine titles. Dustwrappers are unclipped except for Vol. IV. Bookplate in volume I, neat ownership names in the remaining volumes. The set overall is near fine.

Later printings of Volume I have a leaf inserted (128a-128b) with an additional speech. We include a second volume of Volume I in a later printing containing this leaf.


Condition Specifics:
I. Fine/Fine
II. Fine/Near fine
III. Endpapers foxed. Closed marginal tear on dustwrapper.
IV. Textblock edges foxed. Dustwrapper is price-clipped. Crease and closed tear on rear panel repaired from within with archival tape.
V. Spine gilt darkened. Dustwrapper is soiled and has a small repair along top.
VI. Endpapers foxed. Dustwrapper has two short tears at flap ends, an abrasion at the foot of the spine, sunning to top of rear panel.
VII. Light wear to boards. Dustwrapper foxed.
