Hardcover with dustjacket, "Complete and Unabridged in One Volume," book is in excellent condition with just a bit of play in the front hinge and no other remarkable flaws, the binding is tight and the contents are fine, the jacket has mild to moderate edge-wear at the spine-ends and corners and moderate scuffing to the glossy gold portion on the front panel, also, tanning to the reverse side which features a list of other titles by this publisher, the jacket is clean and quite presentable, the original price (3.95) is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included, no publishing date present on this printing but the G6 Toledano binding indicates a 1963-1967 publishing date; 1136 pages .

Synopsis

War and Peace, a Russian novel by Leo Tolstoy, is considered one of the world's greatest works of fiction. It is regarded, along with Anna Karenina (1873–7), as his finest literary achievement. Epic in scale, War and Peace delineates in graphic detail events leading up to Napoleon's invasion of Russia, and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society, as seen through the eyes of five Russian aristocratic families.  First titled '1805' the first installment was published in the January 1865 edition of  Russkiy Vestnik.  It ran in serial form for 2 years before Tolstoy reworked much of the manuscript before publishing it in 1869 as War and Peace.
