First published in English in January 1937; this is a Fine copy of the Second Impression from May of the same year [stated]. Turquoise cloth binding with titling in yellow on the spine and front cover. Clean text; 348 pages, with three pages of publisher adverts in the rear. Very fresh and clear, with no spotting, the bane of English publishing. The dustwrapper is Near Fine; unclipped and with a lightly-faded spine; one small chip on the bottom of the front panel. Synopsis

War with the Newts (Válka s mloky in the original Czech), also translated as War with the Salamanders, is a 1936 satirical science fiction story by Czech author Karel Čapek. It concerns the discovery in the Pacific of a sea-dwelling race, the Newts, who are initially enslaved and exploited. They acquire human knowledge and rebel, leading to a global war for supremacy.
