London: Edward Arnold, 1910. HB. Red cloth, gilt lettering on spine, 8vo, xvi, 379 pp. This work is a critique of the British cavalry as it was armed and used prior to World War I, based on the author's experiences in the Boer War and his study of the Russian-Japanese war. Childers (1870-1922) was an English born and Irish raised author with a passion for sailing who became a Irish Nationalist, smuggled guns to Ireland, and was executed by the Irish Free State in 1922 during the Civil War. Childers' most famous novel was "The Riddle of the Sands". Owner's name front paste-down only mark in book, binding tight. Light foxing to endpapers and edges of text block. Rear cover has a faint 1" stain top rear cover, otherwise covers are clean with gilt lettering bright. Book condition VG.
