About This Item
[Washbourne,, 1858]. 8vo., with engraved portrait frontispiece, engraved title, 7 fine engraved plates and numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, neat contemporary inscription on blank preliminary; most attractively bound in full contemporary calf, sides with double frame border in gilt, back with five flat bands ruled in gilt, second compartment framed and lettered in gilt, all other compartments richly tooled in gilt, gilt edges, gilt doublures, marbled endpapers, a remarkably bright, crisp, clean copy. This copy was formerly in the library of the Rev. Alfred Bonney, and bears his neat ownership inscription on blank preliminary. In this copy the prose title has been replaced by the engraved plate of signatures, with Rolls' portrait of Walton placed as frontispiece. This later Washbourne edition adds the memoir of Walton by William Dowling. A LOVELY COPY.
