Tall 8vo. 62, [2] pp. Printed in sepia, numerous sepia-tinted photo illustrations & text illustrations, map. Illustrated softcovers, cover art of walnuts, embossed raised red lettering, OR & N and SP logos on back cover (slight shelfwear), NF copy, from the library of William Lewis Warren (1849-1923), longtime McMinnville real estate developer, and son of pioneers, William & Almira Warren who came over the Oregon Trail in 1847, w/ ownership markings on endpapers. First edition of this scarce Southern Pacific land promotion touting the advantages of growing walnuts, and walnut operation operations in Oregon at the beginning of the 20th Century. Carefully written to make it seem as if Yamhill County was created by Providence in order to offer the best soil and growing conditions for aspiring orchardists, with notes on planting, grafting, harvesting, and even recipes for walnut confectionery, nut breads, and chocolate walnut cake.
