Guy Howard was born near Newbern, Iowa. After many years of teaching, he became a missionary worker in the Ozarks. He hitchhiked the entire trip there and settled in Hickory County, Missouri, where he taught rural school for a year. During the next years, he walked over most of southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas preaching and doing odd jobs to pay his way. For ten months, he acted as a social service worker at the Transient Camp near Branson, Missouri. A fascinating look at the post-Depression Ozarks.
