Color photo, mounted to the rear inside cover, of the author standing in front of a sculpture. The author's father was a Chicago banker and director of the Santa Fe railroad, and as a child, Emily often travled with him out west, and came to love the Santa Fe area. Emily married Nathaniel A. Owings, one of the designers of Chicago's 1933 Century of Progress, and one of the founders of the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings ,and Merrill. These are her reminiscences of her young married life, and her family's move to Santa Fe, as well as later life. Mrs. Barnes was know for her philanthropy, her love of the arts, and was considered one of the " living treasures of Santa Fe." This copy of the book is from the library of Kay Bennett, one of the founders of Poetry London, and is inscribed to her by the author. Laid in is a handwritten note to Kay from Mrs. Barnes presenting the book and encouraging her to come out to Santa Fe for a visit. 040414B
