A beautiful story of a girl, Toy, the only responsible member of her family, and who took care of all household things. She developed a harsh demeanor, but underneath was gentle with a loving nature. She needed to be somehow released from her fear and anger, to live her own life as an adult. How this happens is the focus of the story. Book is in remarkably good condition. Clean and unmarked gold half-cloth with dark green title panel on spine with gold titles, blue-green cloth over boards; no edgewear; tight, solid, square with sharp corners. Top edge of front panel is sunned. Nice, neat bookplate. Pages clean and completely free of any markings, no creasing. Edgeworn jacket with chipping is clean on front, back side is rumpled and with damp stain near bottom edge. 308 pages. 8.25 x 5.5 inches. 1960, Viking Press, New Yotk, New York, USA
