This edition of "The Variorum Walden" and "The Variorum Civil Disobedience" is the only one that includes Thoreau's own notes as well as notes based on all subsequent research and critical commentary. "Civil Disobedience" was first published in 1849; "Walden" in 1854, by Henry David Thoreau, b.1817- d.1862. Clean and unmarked wraps are sunned around border of illustration of Thoreau, looks aged. Crease down center of spine. Solid and square. Pages toned, clean, no markings of any kind. A moving personal document portraying Thoreau as writer, naturalist, and philosopher, it records an object lesson for all people concerned with personal integrity and independence from the materialism of the society around them.
