The Voyages and Adventures of Captain Robert Boyle... to Which is Added the Voyage, Shipwreck, and Miraculous Preservation of Richard Castleman..." by (Chetwood, William R.) - 1726

London: John Watts, 1726. This is the 2nd edition of a work first published in 1720. The Castleman narrative includes "A description of the city of Philadelphia, and a description of the country of Pennsylvania." Howes states, "Though Boyle's narrative is purely imaginary, that of Castleman seems to be factual." Sabin adds, "(Chetwood's) visit to Philadelphia took place in 1710. Boyle's voyages have been often reprinted; but Castleman's relation is only to be found in the early editions." Howes C-355. Sabin 12553. Oddly, this work is given only peripheral mention in Huntress, in relation to another of Chetwood's books. The Castleman shipwreck receives a "ghost" citation, a number not actually present in Huntress' bibliography. Be that as it may, the Castleman narrative also contains brief descriptions of Bermuda, Charlestown, and other southern ports. Pages tanned and foxed.
