Revised edition, illustrated by M Ad Beaune.) lix, 487 pages, illustrated, 37 b/w illustrations, 1 folding map. Red cloth covers with blind stamped decoration to boards and gilt titling and decoration to spine, page edges gilt. PLEASE NOTE: The rear cover is detached, however the text block is sound. Gift inscription to half title otherwise contents clean, some damp staining and minor foxing, mainly to the prelims. A young French naval officer, Bellot volunteered for British service in the search for the missing Sir John Franklin, and accompanied the expedition of 1851-52 under command of Sir William Kennedy on Lady Franklin's yacht, the Prince Albert. This book describes that voyage to Prince Regent Inlet and investigation of the territory between Somerset Island and the Boothia Peninsula, including the discovery of Bellot Strait.
