About This Item

London: Reeve, Bentham, and Reeve. 1850. First edition. First edition. Attractively bound in contemporary full tan calf with decorative gilt borders. The spine with five raised bands, compartments decorated in gilt and red morocco title label lettered in gilt. Gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Illustrated with 20 hand-coloured lithographic plates, including the frontispiece. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little wear to the joints, spine ends and corners. The contents with the tissue-guard to the frontispiece almost detached, toning to the endpapers and the occasional spot of foxing are otherwise clean throughout and remain free from any previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. The hand-coloured plates remain bold and fresh. An attractive copy of this splendidly illustrated guide to the woodland trees of Britain by the English natural history writer Mary Roberts (1788-1864). Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
