Gilt ruled and titles with gilt spine designs, Slight wear and scuffing to edges and corners of boards. Slight bumping to corners. Small black spot in leather at rear board near head of spine. Yellow endpapers a bit soiled. P. 167 has a small bit of corner torn off, not affcting text. SIGNED and dated July 1856 by Somerset Gough Calthorpe of the 8th Hussars (also noted on the page in his hand, and on one of the Light Brigade). Calthorpe was the Aid-de-camp of Lord Raglan in the Crimean War, and later sued by him for his version of events in his own book. 252 p. w/ 3 folding plates of Alma, Sebasopol, and Inkerman. Sebastopol map has tears at creases on first third of the map. A memoir by a Polish officer in the Russian army who deserted to the British with other Poles in hopes of fighting with free Polish units in the allied army. Uncommon, more so with the Light Brigade association.
