The book includes a colorful portrait of the Jewish quarter of Cracow before the war; the devastation that befell the town; Zuckerman's experiences in concentration camps (including Mauthausen and Gusen II); as a slave laborer; his testimony before the Dachau War Crimes Trials; etc. [Schindler's story was immortalized in the 1993 film by Steven Spielberg starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes.
