About This Item

Random House, October 1951. First Edition. Cloth . Fair/Good. First/first in heavily chipped & torn DJ with large one-inch triangular chip at head of spine. Darkening of verso. Flap not clipped. Grey cloth covered boards with gold lettering in rectangular field of black and gold floral design above and below the title plate. Front and rear boards have large area (three inches from fore-edge corner and across the bottom of decreasing height. End pages include a list--written by William D. Patterson of Saturday Review of Literature'-- of 10 points to 'bear in mind' by those westerners attempting 'to understand Asia better' next to an illustrated map of Asia. The list is probably even more dated than the quite dated map. Likewise, one presumes the book by Michener, one of his earliest published works, from 1951. It was his 4th published book, and first published work of non-fiction. Tinted green (and fading with age) top textblock edge. [338 pp.)
