About This Item
Leipzig: Bibliographiches Institute. Good. 1927. Hardcover. Contains 93 beautiful color plates (some with tissue guards) and 125 sharp and clear black and white text cuts and full page illustrations of birds by a variety of artists. The text is in German in the old style Fraktur type. This book seems to be based Alfred Brehm's "Brehms Tierleben" (Brehms Animal Life), first pubished in 1869 in 6 volumes and covering a variety of species it was essentially a zoological encyclopedia. Walther Kahle was also a prominent German zoologist. This copy has a leather spine with marbled covers; the top edge of backstrip (spine) is missing and there is some shelf wear to the extremities. Aside from the binding flaw, this is a clean, tight book with just a occasional hint of faint foxing. This is a small quarto size book 10.5" tall and also a heavy book weighing 5# 11oz. ; Color & B&W Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 648 pages .
