About This Item

New York:: McGraw-Hill,, 1972.. First Printing of the First Edition. A Near Fine copy in Near Fine, unclipped, dust jacket with a small crease to one corner. There is a previous owner's blank bookplate on the front pastedown. This edition is the first complete text of this posthumous road novel that Kerouac began writing in 1951. Set in the late forties and early fifties, Kerouac tells the stories of the Beats before they were so labeled, against the backdrop of lonely diners, cheap hotels, dingy bars, jazz music, and weed and wine infused nights.

Synopsis

Visions of Cody is a novel by Jack Kerouac, perhaps his most stylistically free and varied. It was written in 1951-1952, and though not published in its entirety until 1973, it had by then achieved an underground reputation. Since its first printing, Visions of Cody has been published with an introduction by Beat poet Allen Ginsberg titled "The Visions of the Great Rememberer.
