Grey cloth with gilt spine titles and gilt publisher's logo to front. In fine condition with very light outer edge toning, small black ink spot back outside board; unclipped dustjacket in fine condition with light shelf wear, protected in mylar. Jacket front: Virginia Woolf at 52 Tavistock Square, 1939; Jacket back: View from Virginia Woolf's study in Monk's House.
John Lehmann was general manager of the Hogarth Press (1938–46), founded by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. In this book, he provides a richly illustrated, critical biography of Virginia Woolf, describing her activities, her social and literary relationships, and her personality and character, and assessing her major writings.
