Breda: Printed by C.J. Asselbergs at his Eenhoorn Pers, 1951. 5 original wood engravings by five artists - Mark Severin, John Buckland Wright, Valentin Le Campion, Stefan Mrozewski and Dirk Van Gelder all inspired by unicorns. Each engraving was printed on Asselbergs’s handpress on white Basingwork Parchment and book mounted in thik japon. One of 90 sets with a loose four page introduction by Asselbergs. Folio, housed in the original portfolio green linen backed and edged with paper covered sides printed on the upper cover with the title, artists’ names and the press device in green. An extremely good set.||With a commentary in Dutch by C.J. Asselbergs who owned the handpress Eenhoorn Pers or Unicorn Press. Included with this set is a typewritten translation of Asselberg’s introduction in English. He gives a history of the legend of the unicorn and describes each artist’s inspiration behind their depiction of the legendary animal.
