William Henry Ryves (1812-1873) Adjutant in 4th Local Horse 1838. Captain in 51st Native Infantry 1845. Colonel in 13th Bengal Lancers, becoming Brigadier-General in Bengal Army 1870; considered the father of ' the 8th Bengal Cavalry Regiment'. Died at Agra of cholera. Recipes and memoranda originally compiled by Col Ryves for the aid of his officers of the 8th Bengal cavalry in 1864 but published now for the non-professional horse owner-- .for horse ailments and diseases, common and unusual medicines to treat ailments, things to help with the well-being and conditioning of horses etc. . 8th edition.
