A charming complete collection of 24 hand colored lithographs, each measuring approx. 3 1/2 x 4 inches, and depicting the traditional costume and dress of various regions and occupations within Switzerland. All sheets, along with a colored decorative title sheet are laid into their original paper folder which then slides into a stiff paper slip-sleeve. The images are generally very good or better in condition, though there are a couple with small spots and foxing. The title sheet remains bright and clear, though is darkened and smudged around the edges, and has a small inked number at the bottom edge and at the top of the verso. The teal folder that holds them is intact, though a bit soiled, and the salmon colored sleeve is very worn.

French and English title pages and text with red and black letters. Adam and Eve motif engraving below title, with Milton quote. Full leather covers are significantly worn and pitted. All covers, except for bottom of Volume II, are detached. Blank end leaves are detached. Light to sometimes moderate foxing throughout. The first edition appeared in 1815; this "improved" edition was published in the 1820s. Bound collection of issues No. 1 to 60 from the 27th year of the magazine, from 5 January to 31 October 1823. Most women's fashion plates by the famous illustrator Louis Marie Lante, 1789-1871.Plates numbered 2121 to 2194, missing 2160-2162, 2170, 2191-2193, several out of order, but a total of 64 fine fashion plates. La Mesangere (1761-1831) was author, journalist and editor, and published the Journal from 1797 to 1839, covering the post-Revolutionary Directory era through the Napoleonic Empire and the Bourbon Restoration. Brown leather spine, black leather labels with gilt decoration, boards with brown marble paper. Condition: Binding scuffed, front hinge weak, plates slightly browned and spotting with usual crease down the centre (where the magazine was folded before binding).

1868 FASHION English Woman Domestic Magazine Illustrated Dresses Beeton Recipes
In mid-19th-century England, there was a growing demand for literature on home-making and female interests. Numerous magazines and periodicals were published to try to meet this demand. One such work was Sam Beeton's "Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine" – a magazine that, according to Diamond,
"targeted middle-class women and was an immediate commercial success, with its clever mix of French fashion plates, dressmaking paper patterns, designs for fancy-work, excellent recipes (by Mrs Beeton), and serialized novels."
This tome contains 23 full-page engravings illustrating dresses and high fashion.

1871 EXQUISITE Lacroix Illustrated Middle Ages Costumes Knights Jesters Bizarre
Paul Lacroix was a 19th-century French author whose books covered a broad set of topics, including some controversial.
