It's main function was to coordinate all of the various movements then underway and also at times to sponsor large-scale cooperative enterprises. It further undertook to promote and watch over the interests of creative personalities. The most important paragraph of its constitution reads: "the aim of the League is to raise the standard of manufactured products by the joint efforts of art, industry and craftsmanship." The yearbooks of the German Werkbund, especially those between 1912 and 1915, convey the prevailing cultural optimism. This 1914 yearbook focused on "Transport." Walter Gropius collected examples of pure form of "automobile and railroad car, steamship and sailing vessel, airship and airplane" for inclusion in the yearbook. Text in German. A stunning publication.
