Quarto, 11 x 9.5 inches, blue cloth gilt, good or better with ex-library marks: bookplate on pastedown, ink stamps and perforated stamp on title page, a few more old ink stamps to the next few pages after the title page, including a withdrawn stamp, rest of the text free of marks, spine with call letters in gilt at base, text tanned, light mottling from old moisture to cloth binding. Each contribution with its own title page. A volume from the Dutch journal of the Royal Academy of Sciences. With 6 articles in Dutch or German, including Hoffmann on the ontogeny of the bony fish, Behrens on the petrography of the Indian archipelago and volcanoes of Java, Hoffmann on the formation of the mesoderm and of the dorsal spinal cord and the development of the neurenteric canal in bird embryos, Verbeek on the thickness of the tertiary deposits on Java, Hubrecht on the ancestoral stem forms of the vertebrates, and Beijerinck on studies of gum disease contaminatibility. With 16 plates, a few folding, some with tinting or color, one is a photo-lithograph.
