About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1923. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 0x0x0. Held, John. First edition, one of 7650 copies (Bruccoli A10.I.a). Lacks scarce jacket. Middle portion of spine faded, minimal diminishment of gilt titles on spine - a common problem with this edition (this copy is better than we usually see), a few small spots on margins of fore edge, ink number on front endpaper, Brentano's bookplate on rear endpaper. 1923 Hard Cover. 145, [7] pp. 8vo. A play developed from a short story. It was Fitzgerald's only play, and was published two years before The Great Gatsby, which was his most popular work. Scribner printed 7650 copies, but the play was not a commercial success, despite showcasing Fitzgerald's facility with dialogue. Still a must for the serious Fitzgerald collector.
