226 pages with diagrams, tables and photographs. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 4 3/4") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First edition. The IBM international chess tournament was a series of very strong chess tournaments held in the Amsterdam, The Netherlands from 1961 to 1981, and was sponsored by IBM. Parallel there was quite often a tournament IBM-B, always with (future or former) strong grandmasters - and local Dutch players to play against foreign titleholders, apart from the major "A" section. By 1963, there were 120 participants in the IBM Amsterdam tournament, broken down to grandmaster group, master group, reserve master group, etc. It was a real festival, connected with the idea to promote (chess) programming by sponsor IBM. This is the 14th edition of the tournament. With a field of sixteen contestants. Vlastimil Jansa, Vladimir Borisovich Tukmakov and Borislav Ivkov vying for first with scores of 10 of 15. A full point behind was Zoltan Ribli. In fifth was Hans Ree at 8 1/2. Sixth and seventh was shared with Efim Geller and Dragoljub Velimirovic half point behind. Another shared place with Istvan Csom and Kick Langeweg whom captured eight and ninth. In sole tenth was Albin Planinc a half point behind them at 7. Eleventh through thirteenth was Jan Timman, William Lombardy and Gennadi Borisovich Sosonko each with 6 1/2. In descending order Jan Hein Donner fourteenth, Rainer F A Knaak fifteenth and last Julio Kaplan. Condition, Previous owner's neat name on front wrapper verso else a near fine copy.
