N/a. viii, 135, 56 (advertisements)pp. A scarce 1897 first edition of this work with numerous illustrations and four folding plates. Plate iii is a super steel engraving of Ruston, Proctor & Co.'s Condensing Engine, fitted with Crab claw gear. Gilt embossed title to the spine. Original publisher's cloth. A pencil name, place and date to the front endpaper. Very neat ink name stamp to the head of the contents page and to the head of the title page. Light toning to the spine. Light or slight rubbing to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. A 1.5cm expertly repaired tear to the margin of one folding plate. A very good, clean, tight well preserved copy.
