About This Item

New York, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1889. First Thus . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. As the Author states in her introductory note: "this my first novel was written several years ago & published.first in a ladies' magazine under the name of "Dorothea" & afterwards in book form as "Dolly." It then fell out of print & the author lost copyright. This is the First Edition with this new title from Scribner's (First, thus), 1889, with corrections by the author & bearing the name she originally intended for it, in382 pp. Hardcover 12mo (5" x 7") is half bound in publisher's green cloth with brown & white floral patterned cloth covering the remaining boards, bright gilt lettering & design to spine. Condition is VG: very clean, with darkening along top edge & fore edge. Some evidence of erased pencil to endpapers, old stamp from Brooklyn Book Shop in Hollywood inside rear cover. Former owner's name in script to top of title page, which is partially torn out & clumsily mended with clear tape. Exterior shows rubbing to extremities, with a bit of fraying at both ends of spine; bumped corners. A handsome copy!
