Unusual re-issue of the engraved and hand-coloured furniture plates originally published in Ackermann's Repository of Arts from 1809 to 1822.
Complete with all 76 plates, several signed by George Smith, later Upholsterer and Furniture Draughtsman to Queen Victoria.
Many delightful illustrations of Regency furniture and interiors including curtains, draperies, beds, chairs, sofas, ottomans, bookshelves, cabinets, sideboards, ladies' work tables for sewing and embroidery, upright pianos, wheelchairs, transforming furniture, in both classical and Gothic styles.
A treasure trove of luxurious furniture manufactured for the aristocracy, drawn by various artists from actual pieces - some of which occasionally turn up for auction. Includes the cradle of Napoleon II, Pitt's cabinet globe writing table, Benjamin Crosby's revolving moveable bookcase, a "metamorphic" writing and backgammon table, George Wilkinson and Robert Wornum's upright patent piano-forte, William Pocock's reclining chair, stylish chairs by Thomas Morgan and Joseph Sanders, Merlin's mechanical chair (wheelchair), campaign beds inspired by the Duke of Wellington, etc.

The plates in quarto size with larger margins than the original octavo issue in the Repository of Arts. Pages watermarked from 1827 to 1830, and previous owner's signature "Russell Smith 1836" on front endpaper.

Halifax: Printed by Abraham Hodge, 1799. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Good. 8vo. 502, (18) pages. Hardcover bound in original full leather. The binding is worn and scuffed but sound. Some of the scuffing on the binding has deep gouges, especially on the rear cover where a strip of leather is missing along the fore edge. Hinges are secure, but there is a strip of old cloth book tape on the front inner hinge, and some of the last few leaves of the index are stuck together at the gutter. This does not really affect the text but there might have been some adhesive applied there. Corners bumped. Contains the front and rear blank flyleaves. There is an early ink signature on the front pastedown which appears to be "L. Silliman" (possibly Levi Silliman? 1797-1867. Oxford: Printed at the Theater, 1686 A good copy in full leather binding with map, 26 folding and 11 single page plates. With the Copy of the Proposals and list of subscribers, but lacking the Arms Omitted. The binding, with blind stamped lining to boards, raised bands and title label to spine, is in very good clean condition. The spine has been relaid, but the boards do not look contemporary so this could be a later binding which has itself been repaired. There is a little scuffing to the boards but little significant wear. New endpapers have been added, replacing damaged and heavily marbled ones (? late victorian). The contents have been trimmed at some time (it is now on the quarto/folio border), but all page edges are red and the trimming does not look recent. The trimming is particularly obvious in the subscribers list. Overall the contents are in good condition, with most text pages and many plates being bright and clean. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
