William Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh and London, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Author's note. Dark pink cloth covered boards with black coloured titles to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. The book is a sweeping saga of pioneer life in the alpine country of New South Wales. A tale of dauntless settlers and their headstrong children, of cattle duffers and bushrangers, of flooding rivers and ill-fated love, largely based on tales were handed down by Miles Franklin's maternal grandmother, herself an early settler of Australia's high country. Softening of the back strip edges with a little bumping to the book corners. Rubbing of the book edges and panels with fading to the top edge of the front panel and back strip. Age toning and foxing of the text block edges with lighter age toning and foxing of the pages. A previous owner has cut the top right hand corner of the free front end page and there is offset tanning to the end pages. A previous owner has pasted a newspaper clipping to the free front end page in regards to the book. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down.
