About This Item

MIRO, Joan

  • A first edition, original lithograph reproduction of a study drawing, pencil on felt paper, made in 1928. This offset lithograph was published in 1941.
  • Only 8000 copies were ever printed for the collection put together by Sweeney, a then leading authority in modern art, for MoMA.
  • The work is framed and glazed. Softwood frame, bearing the Parsonage Studio crown stamp.

Description

  • The original work was produced in 1928, this is a first edition offset lithograph, of a series limited to only 8000. This is one of Miro's seldom seen sturdies, for which he had experimented with a variety of media.
  • Frame worked on at Parsonage Studio, crown stamped to verso thus. The lithograph is presented in a complementing black and green wooden frame giving the whole piece a striking appearance.
  • Miro's genius (in part) was the credibility he gave to his ideographic, part symbols and forms. Miro held the balance of form and sense with perfect assurance. Which is visible on even the largest of his works. A superb example of modernist perfection.
  • The condition is very good indeed. Excepting what appears a tiny, surface abrasion it would class as near fine. The lithograph retains full colour and without foxing.
  • Approx. measurement: 14x10cm inner, 30x24cm outer.
