About This Item

Indianapolis, IN Bobbs-Merrill, 1955. Hardcover First Ed USA, so stated. First Ed USA, so stated. Very Good in Very Good DJ: Book shows light wear to extremities; slight spine lean; faint rubbing and soiling; very slight bow to boards; pages tanned just slightly; mild shelfwear along bottom edge of cloth-covered boards; binding remains secure; text clean. DJ shows minor rubbing and soiling; scuff at mid front face; moderate wear to extremites, where chips are just beginning to form; mylar-protected. Despite minor indications of prior use, a very presentable copy. 8vo. 186pp. Illustrated by Gerald McCann. Hardback with DJ. Tam the Untamed tells the story of a girl growing up on a remote station in Australia, with her three dogs and horse for friends.Well, those are just the most affectionate of her menagerie, guaranteed to delight children. My eight-year-old granddaughter loves it as much as I did at her age. You'll find joy, comfort, fear, loneliness, and tragedy in this book, all wrapped in love. Tam is the second book of Mary Pachett's autobiography. First she wrote of Ajax, her half-dingo dog, and Tam is the white brumby stallion she tamed and rode as she grew up on a station. Nobody else could ride him and he got on well with Ajax. Tam was the inspiration for her white stallion The Brumby and she writes well of her early life and the home and surroundings in Australia. This is a good read for any age and sweeps us along with her adventures in the bush. Also try The Brumby and Come Home, Brumby; Ajax the Warrior and Wild Brother; Quarter Horse Boy. Pachett wrote several books for young people but those I believe to be her best.
