Collins came to Montana during the gold rush in the 1870s, had success finding gold and then turned to law, banking and politics, serving in the Territorial legislature and as State Treasurer and State Bank Examiner. He was a founder of Great Falls and introduced the bill creating Cascade County. His mansion in Great Falls is on the National Register of Historic Places. Charles Severance came to Montana in 1870 and had a ranch near Oka and Ubet. He was a major sheep raiser in Meagher County, running some 24,000 sheep in this period. See, Stearns, History of the Upper Musselshell Valley (1966). Made out to William G. Stevenson and signed by him on the verso. In 1894 the Severance Mercantile Co. sued for a receiver for the Antelope Basin Sheep Company, as reported in the Great Falls Weekly Tribune.Reviews
