Illustrated dustwrapper, (wraparound) bracket being a reproduction of the Australian artist Jeffrey Smart's painting "Factory Staff, Erehwyna, 1972", with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. David Ireland's second novel (which won the Miles Franklin award for literature in 1972) has a theme of man in modern industrial society; it story that of the employees of Puroil, a foreign-owned oil refinery in Sydney. A little rubbing of the book corners and softening of the back strip edges. Faint browning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages.
