About This Item

Borges, Jorge Luis. A Universal History of Infamy. New York:: Dutton, 1972.. First Printing of the First US Edition. ISBN: 0525226702. A Fine copy in a Fine price-clipped dust jacket. This collection of short stories first published in 1935 is responsible for the coining of the term "magical realism", and set the beginning of the movement. The stories except for one are fictionalized accounts of real criminals. The sources are listed at the end of the book, but Borges makes many alterations in the retelling—arbitrary or otherwise—particularly to dates and names, so the accounts cannot be relied upon as historical.
