C. & E.B. Gill, Hingham, MA, 1834. Hardcover. Very Good. Fourth edition. Modern black cloth with gilt stamped spine lettering. Approximately 5" x 3 1/2". 32 miniature biographies of historical figures interspersed with occasional poem and anecdote; 13 engraved portrait plates. The covers have light wear and gentle bumping to the extremities. The text leaves are lightly toned, have some soiling, pencil markings, turned corners, and the title page has been repaired at the hinge. Engraved plates are of Napoleon Bonaparte, Henry Broughman, DeWitt Clinton, King George IV of England, his wife Caroline, Rev. Edward Irving, Washington Irving, Edmond Kean, Mademoiselle Mars, Sir Walter Scott, Madame de Stael, Talma, and The Duke of Wellington. Additional biographies of John Adams, Robert Burns, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Marquis de La Fayette, James Madison, Cardinal Wolsey, et al. throughout
